I cleared the Punjab Police Sub Inspector exam with Rank 2 (713/800). Jail Warder is one of the most popular 12th-pass jobs in Punjab, and it has a physical test that many people underestimate. This page puts the official notification in one place.
This page is based on PSSSB Advertisement No. 08 of 2026 (Warder and Matron), published on 28 March 2026. As reported, the written exam was held on 26 July 2026 and the result was declared on 30 September 2026. The PMT/PET schedule will be announced on sssb.punjab.gov.in. Eligibility
- 10+2 or equivalent from a recognised board.
- Punjabi as a compulsory or elective subject (or an equivalent Punjabi examination), and matric-level Punjabi under the service rules.
- You must hold the qualification by the last date of applying.

Selection process
- Objective (MCQ) written exam in two parts:
- Part A - matric-level Punjabi, qualifying only, at least 50%.
- Part B - the merit list is made only from Part B. 1 mark per question, 1/4 mark cut for each wrong answer.
- PMT and PET for candidates called from the merit list - both are qualifying.
- Counselling and document verification, then the final result.
Ties: older candidate first; then higher percentage in the required qualification; then matric marks.
How to prepare
- Solve the real papers. We have all six shifts of the 2021 PSSSB Jail Warder exam (27, 28 and 29 August).
- Start physical training with the written exam. The 100 m in 15 seconds is one attempt only - practise starts and sprints three times a week.
- The shot put and rope climb need technique. Get coaching for the shot put glide and build grip strength for the rope.
- Secure the Punjabi part. 50% in Part A is a hard floor.
- Watch the negative marking. At -1/4, skip a question unless you can rule out at least one option.
