I cleared the Punjab Police Sub Inspector exam with Rank 2 (713/800). Patwari is one of the most popular PSSSB posts, so this page puts everything from the official notification in one place, so you know exactly what you are preparing for.
The last full Patwari recruitment was PSSSB Advt. No. 01 of 2021, published on 14 January 2021. All the facts below come from that notification. A new recruitment is expected; read the next section.
Punjab Patwari Bharti 2026: what we know
- Status: news reports expect about 1,000 Revenue Patwari posts. The official PSSSB notification had not been published when this page was written.
- What to expect: going by the last notification, the rules for degree, computer course, Punjabi and age usually stay the same, but the new notification decides.
- What to do now: start preparing on the pattern below and practise the real 2021 papers. We will update this page the day the notification comes.

- Women: 33% of Revenue Patwari posts were reserved for women.
- Applications: online at sssb.punjab.gov.in from 14 January to 11 February 2021; fee by 15 February 2021.
Eligibility
Patwari (Revenue) and Irrigation Booking Clerk:
- A bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university.
- A 120-hour computer course (office productivity or desktop publishing) from a recognised or ISO 9001 institution, or 120 hours of working experience in computer applications, or an 'O' Level certificate from DOEACC.
- Matriculation with Punjabi as a subject, or an equivalent Punjabi examination.
Zilladar: a degree with second division, plus matric-level Punjabi.
You must meet the qualification by the last date of application.
Age limit (as on 1 January 2021)
- General: 18 to 37 years
- SC and BC of Punjab: up to 42 years
- State and central government employees: up to 45 years
- Persons with disabilities of Punjab: up to 47 years
- Widows, divorcees and certain other married women: up to 40 years
- Ex-servicemen: as per the ex-servicemen rules
For Revenue Patwari, only orthopedically handicapped candidates were eligible under the disability quota.

The fee is not refunded in any case.
Pay and training
- Patwari (Revenue): Rs 19,900 minimum pay. You first train for one year at the Patwar School and six months in the field, with a stipend of Rs 5,000 per month.
- Irrigation Booking Clerk: Rs 19,900, after three months of canal patwari training and the patwar exam.
- Zilladar: Rs 35,400 (Level 6).
Selection process
- Stage 1 written exam (objective): a screening test. In each category, 10 times the number of posts move on to stage 2.
- Stage 2 written exam (objective): the merit list is made only from stage 2 marks.
- Counselling: about 3 times the posts are called for document verification.
Minimum marks: every candidate, in every category, needs at least 40% in the written exam. Below 40% you are out, whatever your category.
Ties: the older candidate ranks higher. If still tied, the higher percentage in the educational qualification decides, and then matric marks.
The notification said the detailed syllabus and pattern would be put on the board's website later. In 2021 the exam was held as Paper 1 on 8 August 2021 and Paper 2 on 5 September 2021, and both papers are on our site.
How to prepare
- Solve the real papers first. Start with the Punjab Patwari previous year papers (2016, 2021 and 2023) to see what PSSSB actually asks.
- Punjabi decides a lot. Punjabi grammar and comprehension appear in almost every PSSSB paper, and matric Punjabi is compulsory anyway.
- Punjab GK is a must. History, culture, geography and economy of Punjab, plus current affairs.
- Don't skip computers. You need the 120-hour course for eligibility, and computer questions come in the exam too.
- Clear 40% safely. It is a hard floor. Aim far above it, because merit is decided by the stage 2 score.
